What we usually need
For any vehicle that is eight years or older we can use a NYS DMV MV-35 form. Have your state ID and the vehicle registration and the form takes a minute to complete, sign it and it’s clear to be removed. That is normally the whole of it. For late model running vehicles, we prepare the duplicate title application, submit it and cover the cost.
A lienholder still listed
If you paid the loan off years ago but the bank never filed the release, the lienholder still shows on the title. We can request the lien release from the financial institution on your behalf. It takes a little longer but it is routine.
A vehicle left by someone who has died
Both states have procedures for this and both depend on the value of the vehicle and who survives. You will need a certified copy of the death certificate. In Florida a surviving spouse can generally sign. In New York there are affidavit routes tied to value thresholds. Call and describe the situation and we will tell you what is needed.
What we cannot take without a title
There are situations where the state simply will not transfer without the title in the owner’s name, and we will tell you plainly rather than send a truck and waste your afternoon. Call with the year, make and model and the name on the registration and you will have an answer in a minute.
