Florida titles are signed on the front, in the transfer of title by seller section. Blue or black ink only. Sign exactly as your name appears printed on the title. No white-out, no corrections, no crossing out, because any of those can void the title and turn a simple pickup into a trip to the tax collector. Leave the buyer section blank and we complete it.
More than one name on the title
If the names are joined by OR, one owner signs. If they are joined by AND, or AND slash OR, or there is no conjunction at all, every owner listed has to sign and print.
We Remove your plates
Plates stay with you in Florida, not with the car. We take them off when our tow truck arrives. You can transfer them to another vehicle you own, or surrender them to your county tax collector or a license plate agency with a written request to cancel and recycle the plate.
File the Notice of Sale
Form HSMV 82050 is the Notice of Sale and it is what releases you from liability. Complete it and file it with your local tax collector. The title record will then show as sold. This is the donor’s step, not the tow driver’s, and it is the one people skip.
Then cancel your insurance
After the vehicle is collected and after the plates are handled, not before. Florida requires continuous coverage on a registered vehicle, and cancelling while the registration is still live can cause you problems.
No title, or a lien still showing
A duplicate Florida title is inexpensive and is usually printed on the spot at a tax collector office. We handle that application for you and we pay the fee. If a lienholder is still listed on a loan you paid off years ago, we need a lien release from the bank, and we will request it on your behalf with your written authorization.
